The end of June

Summer has come to PEI

When summer makes it to Prince Edward Island, it makes up for the wait. It has been warm, warm, warm here for the past 4 days. High 70's and low 80's is a normal summer for some folks, but Islanders will shake their heads and say that it's "too hot!"

With cool nights, it's great for sleeping and the daytime heat dries up the dew early each morning so the mosquitos don't have time to spawn in the tall grass. It's a good thing!

We joke with Reubin & Lynne. This is a great campground, water and electricity, and it's free, but they need to strengthen the free wifi. Such a deal.

The prettiest place on PEI

We are located on Rt 337, the Milburn Rd near St Peter's Bay, the place from which PEI Mussels come. It's one of the most picturesque parts of the Confederation Trail, a walking/biking path that runs from one end of the Island to the other.

We had 18 to cook, froze 9 for
Joshua & Jill in July

Seafood is so fresh!

On Saturday we had our last big lobster feed. Hard to tell the difference between this one and the last 'feed'. Such a problem.

Today Ray and my brother-in-law Reubin are helping our friend the lobster fisherman bring in his pots. They must be on the dock by midnight tonight, June 30th. So there'll be no more pictures of the delectable "bugs" piled in dock boxes.

Yesterday we had 2 chowders for dinner, my sister made a Smoked Haddock Chowder and Ray made a Mussels, Lobster, & Haddock Chowder.

Ray's looking forward to Oysters next. They cost 35 cents each at the factory. Seems like he'll be enjoying them by himself.

Newfoundland & Labrador plans

We've made plans, paid for the ferry to 'the Rock,'  firmed up our itinerary, and booked campsites. Ray found an app (what did we do before apps?) that helps plan itineraries. It calculates mileage, lists historic spots along the way, suggests photo opportunities (as if I don't take enough pictures), and asks users to suggest places that the app hasn't included.

A real vacation

We get the ferry to Newfoundland on July 20th, so we have almost 3 weeks left with Mom. She's looking forward to seeing Aunt Edith & Stan on the 7th. And we're planning a trip to the West end of PEI with Mom before we leave.

This is a real vacation and the first time we've spent this length of time on PEI. Ray has yet to go fishing for freshwater fish. He still has time, so maybe they'll be pictures of trout.

Who knows what the next post will bring!

Mid-June & It's on to PEI

To this point in June we've camped at Diamond Point near Lake George, NY, Littleton, MA, Scarborough, ME, Robbinston, ME, and Murray Beach, New Brunswick. As we've experienced on other trips, we enjoy each week better than the one before.

On the first day very few bikes had
 arrived, more would
Americade, a motorcycle rally, drew about 100,000 riders to Lake George. It was an amazing sight as the bikes lined the main street.

We spent time with my sister and brother-in-law. They ride a Gold Wing and spent the week with friends at the rally. And we visited Ray's Uncle and Aunt, Frank & Peggy, in Fair Haven, VT. They treated us to a great lunch at the Fair Haven Inn.

We strolled around the pond
 & checked out the ducks
A surprise visit for lunch with Craig, Heather & Kyla Davis in Saratoga Springs gave us great joy. We hadn't seen Kyla in quite some time and she is definitely special! What a cutie with a personality as big as all outdoors!

A great day with our nephews & niece
 & their great kiddos
While in Littleton, we visited relatives and friends. It was a whirlwind week. Great dinners, barbeques, lunches, chinese food, breakfasts, Italian dinners, we never missed a meal! LOL.

We visited with Stan & Edith Ward

In Scarborough we stopped for lunch with my cousin Heather and her husband Rick. Then we visited my Aunt Edith and her husband Stan. Let's hope all of us can be as active as they are at 94 & 98. Edith swims three times a week and they are planning another trip to PEI where Edith was born. We look forward to seeing them in PEI.

The empty bottle makes this picture a
little less artsy!

With a night near the Border behind us, we stayed for a night in New Brunswick, Canada at the Murray Beach Provincial Park that we've viewed from a distance for many years. It was the perfect spot for an al fresco meal while watching the sunset.

Thanks to Frank & Peggy we enjoyed a really cold Riesling, olives we found in Saratoga Springs, cheese, and some "good bread" a wonderful meal in a beautiful spot.

Love those lobsters!
For the next 5 weeks we'll be  staying in a spot carved out of the property owned by my brother-in-law and sister in Morell, PEI. We'll be planning our Newfoundland/Labrador trip, eating lobster, and spending time with Mom.

Happy trails to everyone!

Where we've been!

It has been a busy 5 weeks since we left Trace. I finally figured out how to work on the newly designed Blogger from Google. It's a lot easier than the older version, but it still takes a bit of time to know how it works. I'll be doing better in making timely posts, I promise.

It's amazing to realize that we've been on our current road trip for more than a month. On Thursday we had dinner with friends who live in Massachusetts. They asked when we left home and in recounting our stops we realized how long we've been traveling.

First stop, Lebanon, TN at a rally with Jacqui & Joe Danek.

From Lebanon, we toured Nashville where I snapped a photo from backstage at the Ryman Auditorium.
Think of the famous folks who stood at this exact spot.

After a few days in Crossville, TN where we met Marsha & Red Davis, we headed to Sevierville, TN for a Monaco America rally with Jacqui & Joe. We've been with this group before, but this time we met up with another couple from NC, Bill & Judy Goins, who Ray and I met months before at at a Tom Johnson rally in Marion, NC. RVers make friends all across the country.
On the 16th of May we ended our travels with Joe & Jacqui and headed north with a goal of reaching Elkhart, IN to get some scheduled service. As before, the guys at Forest River service are a great group who went out of their way to accommodate folks who have bought a Forest River product.

On May 20th with "the Berkshire" ready to roll, we headed East for nights in Loudonville, OH, Champion, PA, and Chambersburg, PA, finally spending 4 nights in Gettysburg, PA. This was our 4th trip to Gettysburg.

Another place we never imagined
that we would stand!
On this visit we stopped at the newly opened Seminary Ridge Museum. We had a private tour of the recently restored cupola where General Meade established his plans for the battle to come. It's another time when we found ourselves standing where famous Americans have stood.
What a view
We were very impressed with this new museum. Each of the four floors is dedicated to a different aspect of the war. It is very well-done and worth the extra cost to tour the cupola.

As in other years, we drove the auto tour through the Battlefield. This year we viewed Pickett's Charge from the Southern viewpoint. The North Carolina memorial at that point carries a poignant message.

To the eternal glory of the North Carolina soldiers, who on this Battlefield displayed heroism unsurpassed, sacrificing all in support of their cause. Their valorous deeds will be enshrined in the hearts of men long after these transient memorials have crumbled into dust. ...One confederate soldier in every four who fell here was a North Carolinian.

We ended May in Accord, NY a small town northwest of New York City. A Whitecliff Wine tasting and great sandwiches from the Saunderskill Market were the highlight of this stop. It took us a while to figure out how to take a 'selfie' (obviously we have limited technical abilities), we enjoyed the sandwiches, the Pinot Noir, and especially the view!
